What is Health Coaching? Should you try it?

A health coach can help people with a broad variety of health issues, such as weight loss, stress reduction, sleep, management of chronic conditions, improving diet and exercise, tobacco cessation, and adjusting to a life-altering health event, such as a heart attack.

Unlike traditional psychology that may focus on what is wrong or what needs to be fixed, health coaching focuses on what has worked, and what can work for a person by harnessing & utilizing their individual strengths. Health coaching assists people in overcoming & breaking complacency in their daily routines, replacing bad habits with good ones. You will be empowered to play an active role in your own health and well- being because after all, You are the expert in your own life.

A health coach doesn’t prescribe the same ‘blanket plan’ for everyone. People are very different from one another, and have different lifestyles, goals & values.

My friends are on Keto, should I be too?

A landmark study conducted by the National Institute of Health found that most dieters had regained 1/3 to 2/3 of the weight lost within 1 year, and within 5 years regained almost all of the weight lost (Mann et al., 2007)

There is an abundance of information out there, with thousands of ‘health experts,’ especially on your Facebook & Instagram feeds. A health coach can help you sift through all the ‘white noise’ of health tips, focus on evidence based research, and most importantly, focus on yourself. In particular, changing YOUR habits and focusing on lasting behaviour change. The problem isn’t a lack of information, it’s that people can lack the strategy and support necessary to change habits.

“Unlike health fads that come and go, health coaching has strong evidence behind it backing its effectiveness for improving health and well-being. Becoming a health coach has been deeply rewarding to me, because it is rare in life that you get to promote happiness, build resiliency, save people money, and help people live longer and more fulfilling lives at the same time.” Peter Grinspoon, MD – Harvard Medical School
